22The Festival of Unleavened Bread, which is also called Passover, was approaching.G1161G1859G106G1448G3004G3957 2The leading priests and teachers of religious law were plotting how to kill Jesus, but they were afraid of the people's reaction.G2532G749G2532G1122G2212G4459G337G846G1063G5399G2992 3Then Satan entered into Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve disciples,G1161G1525G4567G1519G2455G1941G2469G5607G1537G706G1427 4and he went to the leading priests and captains of the Temple guard to discuss the best way to betray Jesus to them.G2532G565G4814G749G2532G4755G4459G3860G846G846 5They were delighted, and they promised to give him money.G2532G5463G2532G4934G1325G846G694 6So he agreed and began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus so they could arrest him when the crowds weren't around.G2532G1843G2532G2212G2120G3860G846G846G817G3793

The Last Supper

7Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread arrived, when the Passover lamb is sacrificed.G1161G2064G2250G106G1722G3739G3957G1163G2380 8Jesus sent Peter and John ahead and said, "Go and prepare the Passover meal, so we can eat it together."G2532G649G4074G2532G2491G2036G4198G2090G2254G3957G2443G5315 9"Where do you want us to prepare it?" they asked him.G1161G2036G846G4226G2309G2090 10He replied, "As soon as you enter Jerusalem, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him. At the house he enters,G1161G2036G846G2400G5216G1525G1519G4172G4876G444G4876G5213G941G2765G5204G190G846G1519G3614G3757G1531 11say to the owner, 'The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?'G2532G2046G3617G3614G1320G3004G4671G4226G2076G2646G3699G5315G3957G3326G3450G3101 12He will take you upstairs to a large room that is already set up. That is where you should prepare our meal."G2548G1166G5213G3173G508G4766G1563G2090 13They went off to the city and found everything just as Jesus had said, and they prepared the Passover meal there.G1161G565G2147G2531G2046G846G2532G2090G3957 14When the time came, Jesus and the apostles sat down together at the tablec.G2532G3753G5610G1096G377G2532G1427G652G4862G846 15Jesus said, "I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins.G2532G2036G4314G846G1939G1937G5315G5124G3957G3326G5216G4253G3165G3958 16For I tell you now that I won't eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God."G1063G3004G5213G3754G5315G3765G3364G5315G846G1537G2193G3755G4137G1722G932G2316 17Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said, "Take this and share it among yourselves.G2532G1209G4221G2168G2036G2983G5124G2532G1266G1438 18For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come."G1063G3004G5213G3754G4095G3364G4095G575G1081G288G2193G3755G932G2316G2064 19He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, "This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me."G2532G2983G740G2168G2806G2532G1325G846G3004G5124G2076G3450G4983G3588G1325G5228G5216G5124G4160G364G1519G1699 20After supper he took another cup of wine and said, "This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for youc.G5615G2532G4221G3326G1172G3004G5124G4221G2537G1242G1722G3450G129G3588G1632G5228G5216 21"But here at this table, sitting among us as a friend, is the man who will betray me.G4133G2400G5495G3860G3165G3326G1700G1909G5132 22For it has been determined that the Son of Manc must die. But what sorrow awaits the one who betrays him."G2532G3303G5207G444G4198G2596G3724G4133G3759G1565G444G1223G3739G3860 23The disciples began to ask each other which of them would ever do such a thing.G2532G846G756G4802G4314G1438G5101G686G1537G846G1498G3195G4238G5124 24Then they began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them.G1161G1096G2532G5379G1722G846G5101G846G1380G1511G3187 25Jesus told them, "In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called 'friends of the people.'G1161G2036G846G935G1484G2961G846G2532G1850G846G2564G2110 26But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant.G1161G5210G3756G3779G235G3187G1722G5213G1096G5613G3501G2532G2233G5613G1247 27Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves.G1063G5101G3187G345G2228G1247G3780G345G1161G1473G1510G1722G3319G5216G5613G1247 28"You have stayed with me in my time of trial.G1161G5210G2075G1265G3326G1700G1722G3450G3986 29And just as my Father has granted me a Kingdom, I now grant you the rightG2504G1303G5213G932G2531G3450G3962G1303G3427 30to eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom. And you will sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.G2443G2068G2532G4095G1909G3450G5132G1722G3450G932G2532G2523G1909G2362G2919G1427G5443G2474 31"Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat.G1161G2962G2036G4613G4613G2400G4567G1809G5209G4617G5613G4621 32But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers."G1161G1473G1189G4012G4675G3363G4675G4102G1587G3363G2532G4218G4771G1994G4741G4675G80 33Peter said, "Lord, I am ready to go to prison with you, and even to die with you."G1161G2036G846G2962G1510G2092G4198G3326G4675G2532G1519G5438G2532G1519G2288 34But Jesus said, "Peter, let me tell you something. Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me."G1161G2036G3004G4671G4074G220G5455G3364G5455G4594G4250G2228G5151G533G3361G1492G3165 35Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you out to preach the Good News and you did not have money, a traveler's bag, or extra clothing, did you need anything?" "No," they replied.G2532G2036G846G3753G649G5209G817G905G2532G4082G2532G5266G3361G5302G5100G1161G2036G3762 36"But now," he said, "take your money and a traveler's bag. And if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one!G3767G2036G846G235G3568G2192G905G142G2532G3668G4082G2532G2192G3361G3162G4453G846G2440G2532G59 37For the time has come for this prophecy about me to be fulfilled: 'He was counted among the rebels.'c Yes, everything written about me by the prophets will come true."G1063G3004G5213G3754G5124G1125G1163G2089G5055G1722G1698G2532G3049G3326G459G2532G1063G4012G1700G2192G5056 38"Look, Lord," they replied, "we have two swords among us." "That's enough," he said.G1161G2036G2962G2400G5602G1417G3162G1161G2036G846G2076G2425 39Then, accompanied by the disciples, Jesus left the upstairs room and went as usual to the Mount of Olives.G2532G1831G4198G2596G1485G1519G3735G1636G1161G846G3101G2532G190G846 40There he told them, "Pray that you will not give in to temptation."G1161G1096G1909G5117G2036G846G4336G1525G3361G1519G3986 41He walked away, about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed,G2532G846G645G575G846G5616G3037G1000G2532G5087G1119G4336 42"Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine."G3004G3962G1487G1014G3911G3911G5124G4221G575G1700G4133G3361G3450G2307G235G4674G1096 43Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him.G1161G3700G32G846G575G3772G1765G846 44He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of bloodc.G2532G1096G1722G74G4336G1617G1161G846G2402G1096G5616G2361G129G2597G1909G1093 45At last he stood up again and returned to the disciples, only to find them asleep, exhausted from grief.G2532G450G575G4335G2064G4314G846G3101G2147G846G2837G575G3077 46"Why are you sleeping?" he asked them. "Get up and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation."G2532G2036G846G5101G2518G450G4336G3363G1525G1519G3986 47But even as Jesus said this, a crowd approached, led by Judas, one of the twelve disciples. Judas walked over to Jesus to greet him with a kiss.G1161G846G2089G2980G2400G3793G2532G3004G2455G1520G1427G4281G846G2532G1448G2424G5368G846 48But Jesus said, "Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?"G1161G2424G2036G846G2455G3860G5207G444G5370 49When the other disciples saw what was about to happen, they exclaimed, "Lord, should we fight? We brought the swords!"G1161G4012G846G1492G2071G2036G846G2962G1487G3960G1722G3162 50And one of them struck at the high priest's slave, slashing off his right ear.G2532G1520G5100G1537G846G3960G1401G749G2532G851G846G1188G3775 51But Jesus said, "No more of this." And he touched the man's ear and healed him.G1161G2424G611G2036G1439G5127G2193G2532G680G846G5621G2390G846 52Then Jesus spoke to the leading priests, the captains of the Temple guard, and the elders who had come for him. "Am I some dangerous revolutionary," he asked, "that you come with swords and clubs to arrest me?G1161G2424G2036G4314G749G2532G4755G2411G2532G4245G3854G1909G846G1831G5613G1909G3027G3326G3162G2532G3586 53Why didn't you arrest me in the Temple? I was there every day. But this is your moment, the time when the power of darkness reigns."G5607G3450G5607G2250G2596G3326G5216G1722G2411G1614G3756G5495G1909G1691G235G3778G2076G5216G5610G2532G1849G4655 54So they arrested him and led him to the high priest's home. And Peter followed at a distance.G1161G4815G846G71G2532G1521G846G1519G749G3624G1161G4074G190G3113 55The guards lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat around it, and Peter joined them there.G1161G846G681G4442G1722G3319G833G2532G4776G4074G2521G3319G1722G846 56A servant girl noticed him in the firelight and began staring at him. Finally she said, "This man was one of Jesus' followers!"G1161G5100G3814G1492G846G2521G4314G5457G2532G816G846G2036G3778G2258G2532G4862G846 57But Peter denied it. "Woman," he said, "I don't even know him!"G1161G720G846G3004G1135G1492G846G3756 58After a while someone else looked at him and said, "You must be one of them!" "No, man, I'm not!" Peter retorted.G2532G3326G1024G2087G1492G846G5346G4771G1488G2532G1537G846G1161G4074G2036G444G1510G3756 59About an hour later someone else insisted, "This must be one of them, because he is a Galilean, too."G2532G5616G1339G3391G5610G243G5100G1340G3004G1909G225G3778G2532G2258G3326G846G1063G2532G2076G1057 60But Peter said, "Man, I don't know what you are talking about." And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.G1161G4074G2036G444G1492G3756G3739G3004G2532G3916G846G2089G2980G220G5455 61At that moment the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Suddenly, the Lord's words flashed through Peter's mind: "Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me."G2532G2962G4762G1689G4074G2532G4074G5279G3056G2962G5613G2036G846G3754G4250G220G5455G533G3165G5151 62And Peter left the courtyard, weeping bitterly.G2532G4074G1831G1854G2799G4090 63The guards in charge of Jesus began mocking and beating him.G2532G435G4912G2424G1702G846G1194 64They blindfolded him and said, "Prophesy to us! Who hit you that time?"G2532G4028G846G5180G846G4383G2532G1905G846G3004G4395G5101G2076G3817G4571 65And they hurled all sorts of terrible insults at him.G2532G4183G2087G987G3004G1519G846 66At daybreak all the elders of the people assembled, including the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. Jesus was led before this high councilc,G2532G5613G1096G2250G4244G2992G5037G749G2532G1122G4863G2532G321G846G1519G1438G4892G3004 67and they said, "Tell us, are you the Messiah?" But he replied, "If I tell you, you won't believe me.G1487G1488G4771G5547G2036G2254G1161G2036G846G1437G2036G5213G4100G3364G4100 68And if I ask you a question, you won't answer.G1161G1437G2532G2065G611G3364G611G3427G2228G630 69But from now on the Son of Man will be seated in the place of power at God's right handc."G3568G575G2071G5207G444G2521G1537G1188G1411G2316 70They all shouted, "So, are you claiming to be the Son of God?" And he replied, "You say that I am."G1161G5346G3956G1488G4771G3767G5207G2316G1161G2036G4314G846G5210G3004G3754G1473G1510 71"Why do we need other witnesses?" they said. "We ourselves heard him say it."G1161G2036G5101G2192G5532G2089G3141G1063G846G191G575G846G4750

Jesus Washes His Disciples’ Feet

13Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very endc.G1161G4253G1859G3957G2424G1492G3754G846G5610G2064G2443G3327G1537G5127G2889G4314G3962G25G2398G3588G1722G2889G25G846G1519G5056 2It was time for supper, and the devil had already prompted Judasc, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.G2532G1173G1096G1228G2235G906G1519G2588G2455G2469G4613G2443G3860G846 3Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God.G2424G1492G3754G3962G1325G3956G1519G846G5495G2532G3754G1831G575G2316G2532G5217G4314G2316 4So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist,G1453G1537G1173G2532G5087G2440G2532G2983G3012G1241G1438 5and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples' feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.G1534G906G5204G1519G3537G2532G756G3538G3101G4228G2532G1591G3012G3739G2258G1241 6When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?"G3767G2064G4314G4613G4074G2532G1565G3004G846G2962G3538G4771G3538G3450G4228 7Jesus replied, "You don't understand now what I am doing, but someday you will."G2424G611G2532G2036G846G3739G1473G4160G4771G1492G3756G737G1161G1097G3326G5023 8"No," Peter protested, "you will never ever wash my feet!" And when he had dipped it, he gave it to Judas, son of Simon Iscariot.G2424G611G1565G2076G3739G1929G5596G1473G911G2532G1686G5596G1325G2455G2469G4613 27When Judas had eaten the bread, Satan entered into him. Then Jesus told him, "Hurry and do what you're going to do."G2532G3326G5596G5119G4567G1525G1519G1565G3767G3004G2424G846G3739G4160G4160G5032 28None of the others at the table knew what Jesus meant.G1161G3762G345G1097G4314G5101G2036G5124G846 29Since Judas was their treasurer, some thought Jesus was telling him to go and pay for the food or to give some money to the poor.G1063G5100G1380G1893G2455G2192G1101G3754G2424G3004G846G59G3739G2192G5532G1519G1859G2228G2443G1325G5100G4434 30So Judas left at once, going out into the night.G1565G3767G2983G5596G1831G2112G1831G1161G2258G3571

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

31As soon as Judas left the room, Jesus said, "The time has come for the Son of Manc to enter into his glory, and God will be glorified because of him.G3767G3753G1831G2424G3004G3568G1392G5207G444G1392G2532G2316G1392G1722G846 32And since God receives glory because of the Sonc, he will soon give glory to the Son.G1487G2316G1392G1722G846G2316G1392G2532G1392G846G1722G1438G2532G1392G2117G1392G846 33Dear children, I will be with you only a little longer. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.G2537G1785G1325G5213G2443G25G240G2531G25G5209G2443G5210G2532G25G240 35Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples."G1722G5129G1097G3956G1097G3754G2075G1699G3101G1437G2192G26G1722G240 36Simon Peter asked, "Lord, where are you going?" "I'm ready to die for you."G4074G3004G846G2962G1302G3756G1410G190G4671G737G5087G3450G5590G5228G4675 38Jesus answered, "Die for me? I tell you the truth, Peter-before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.G2424G611G846G5087G4675G5590G5228G1700G281G281G3004G4671G220G5455G3364G5455G2193G3739G533G3165G5151
